There are few different things that cause Acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease and one of from those factors can be esophageal contractions. Fatty foods or foods that are high in cholesterol may be the cause of acid reflux but there are actually life altering events that can cause acid reflux. An abnormal amount of acid can causes acid reflux that are actually produced by some patients where as and others may have several different causes which leads to acid reflux. So you have to know about esophageal contractions which are in brief description in bellow.

The practice of swallowing is the most important process to avoid acid reflux. Swallowing is a relatively easy task to perform but everyone does not have the same behave to perform. So foods that you are eating should be chewed well then it will be pushed through the esophagus to end up in a rightful place in the stomach. If you are swallowing foods without chewing it leads a contraction called peristalsis that begins in the upper esophagus and ends in the lower esophagus like a wave ring for approaching the food through the proper way into the stomach.

The people who are suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease their acid reflux process is defective because the acid that is refluxed is not approaching towards the stomach in the correct manner. The gastroesophageal reflux patients are unable to apply the sufficient pressure in their swallow because there is not enough strength in their swallow to reach their foods in to the stomach. This defective disorder is commonly found in people not only from acid reflux, but from severe acid reflux disorders.

As usual with acid reflux, the condition worsens at night when the individual does not have the support of gravity in the swallowing process. Though the swallows may be weak with esophageal contractions in the beginning, they are even weaker without the aid of gravity to push the acid into the stomach. Esophageal contractions do not occur in all individuals who suffer from acid reflux, but it does occur in those with the most severe cases, meaning that if you suffer greatly you probably have weak esophageal contractions.
